Emteaz Hussain
Emteaz Hussain is a Playwright, Poet and Screenwriter. Produced works include STRAWBERRIES, SOCIAL DISTANCING, PIMP MY RIDE; a stage adaptation of Alex Wheatle’s CRONGTON KNIGHTS, OUTSIDERS, BLOOD, SWEET CIDER, ETCHING for BBC 3 and ACKLEY BRIDGE series 5.
Her current play EXPENDABLE will be on at the Royal Court Theatre in November 2024. She is on attachment at The National Theatre studio and is developing her first screenplay with WARP film.
As a performance poet she has performed nationally and internationally and has toured with Transglobal Underground, Fundamental, Hustlers HC and as a backing poet with the Benjamin Zephaniah band. Emteaz works extensively as a workshop practitioner in both statutory and community settings, specialising in pupil referral.
Zodwa Nyoni
Zodwa Nyoni is a Zimbabwean-born playwright, screenwriter and director.
Her debut play, BOI BOI IS DEAD won the Channel 4 Playwrights’ Scheme in 2014. It was also a finalist for the international Susan Smith Blackburn Prize 2014/15. Since, her plays have been produced in the UK, France, Germany, USA, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Her most recent work, THE DARKEST PART OF THE NIGHT (Kiln Theatre) was shortlisted for the Alfred Fagon Award and George Devine Award 2021. It was ranked as one of the best plays of 2022 by The Independent (UK).
Zodwa’s plays are published by Bloomsbury. She has lectured in poetry and theatre since 2018. She is currently a Lecturer in Scriptwriting at Manchester Metropolitan University and an associate dramaturg for Tiata Fahodzi and Fifth Word Theatre.
She has written two radio plays, LOVE AGAIN (BBC Radio 3) and A KHOISAN WOMAN (Drama on 3); and three short films: MAHOGANY (National Trust and 24 Design Ltd) and NOTES ON BEING A LADY (New Creatives / BBC Arts) and the award winning, THE ANCESTORS (BBC Films and BFI Network).
Zodwa was an international fellow on Oxbelly’s inaugural Episodic Program in Greece. She is a BAFTA Connect member and was on the BIFA mentoring programme.She is currently working on Netflix’s spin-off series, CASTLEVANIA: NOCTURNE; under commission at Manchester Royal Exchange, Bristol Old Vic and Kiln Theatre; and writing an opera for Buxton International Festival.
Nathan Ellis
Nathan Ellis is a British writer. He was a member of the Royal Court Invitation Writers’ Supergroup 2018-19 led by Alice Birch and Ali Mcdowall. He was a member of the Channel 4 Screenwriting Group 2023 and BBC WritersRoom Drama Room 2021-22. In 2020 his play SUPER HIGH RESOLUTION was Shortlisted for the Verity Bargate Award. It was performed at the Soho Theatre in 2022 directed by Blanche McIntyre (★★★★★Daily Mail) and in the repertoire at Staatstheater Kassel in 2023 directed by Manon Pfrunder. His play Instructions won a Scotsman Fringe First Award for new-writing in 2024 and will tour internationally in 2025. His play work.txt (a play without actors) opened at the Soho Theatre in 2022 and received ★★★★★ from The Guardian as well as winning awards at the Adelaide Fringe and Dublin Fringe and being invited to the Caravan International Showcase 2022. The show is currently on an international tour (Australia, Germany, Brazil, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, Egypt) and has been translated into six languages. His first play NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE YOU (‘a blazing debut’ The Stage) was invited to Incoming Festival 2019 and in 2023 in Italian at Teatro Belli, Rome. He is the Artistic Director of theatre company SUBJECT OBJECT and is a Creative Associate of the Nottingham Playhouse, where he runs the Nottingham Playhouse Writers’ Group.
