An Award for Most Promising Playwright

We are thrilled to announce that our new playwriting competition in partnership with Nottingham Playhouse is opening April 2015! This is a unique partnership between one of the regions leading producing theatres and new writing touring company and is supported by Arts Council England.

We hope the award for ‘most promising playwright’ will provide a genuine opportunity to identify the most talented and upcoming East Midlands writers. Maybe we’ll find the next James Graham or Amanda Whittington? We’re excited to see what responses we’ll get and hope this will go some way towards unearthing new writers that may not even consider themselves one yet.

The winner of this award will receive:

  • A 12 month attachment with Fifth Word based at Nottingham Playhouse
  • A rehearsed reading of their play as part of a celebration event at Nottingham Playhouse
  • £2000 development money
  • A Mentor to provide dramaturgical support whilst on attachment
  • and a ‘Go and see budget’.

All entries will be read by a panel of artists and industry professionals and a winner and runners up announced on 8th September 2015.

We will be announcing the judging panel very shortly! …

Meanwhile, take a look at our minsite dedicated to the competition which has a simple online entry form, help and guidance and a special ideas and inspiration section.
